Preventive Dental Care
One thing that has separated us from the others is our emphasis on educating our patients about their treatment options and oral health issues. In addition to providing emergency and cosmetic dental services, we stress the importance of maintaining healthy oral hygiene.
Here are some of the steps we take to ensure you and your family have and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile:
Fluoride Treatment: Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. Brushing twice a day is imperative to helping in the fight against early tooth decay. Fluoride treatment at our dental clinic is much stronger in concentration than that of toothpastes or fluoride mouth washes and we recommend receiving this treatment at least once every six months to ensure proper oral hygiene.
Protective Sealants: Dental sealants act as a barrier to prevent cavities. They are most often applied to the back teeth where tooth decay occurs most often. Sealants protect the areas where tooth brushes cannot reach all the way into the depressions of the teeth by sealing out plaque and food to these vulnerable places.
Prophylaxis (Teeth Cleaning): Prophylaxis is a cleaning procedure performed at our dental clinic in Short Hills that thoroughly cleans the teeth. This cleaning process involves cleaning the area above the gum line, removing calculus from the gum pockets beneath the gum line, smoothing of the tooth root to eliminate bacteria, applying antibiotic cream to the gum pockets and performing an X-ray and thorough examination.
Oral Hygiene Maintenance: Unlike other clinics, we strive to not only treat our patients but to educate. All patients coming to our clinic will be given ample information regarding the on-going oral hygiene maintenance that they can perform in the comfort of their own home.
